Canaveral Port Authority has hired two veteran port executives and promoted a third to help expand cargo business development and terminal operations at Port Canaveral. The Long Beach Board of Harbor Commissioners has promoted Richard D. Cameron to managing director of environmental affairs and planning for the Port of Long Beach. Port of Oakland Executive Director Chris Lytle has named maritime industry veteran John C. Driscoll the port’s new director of maritime, effective January 27.

Canaveral Adds Veteran Port Executives to Its Cargo Team 

Canaveral Port Authority has hired two veteran port executives and promoted a third to help expand cargo business development and terminal operations at Port Canaveral. 

Alberto Cabrera comes to Florida port as the senior director of cargo business development and will oversee cargo marketing strategy to expand container, ro/ro, bulk and break bulk operations. He is the former director and general manager of trade development and marketing for the Jacksonville Port Authority, where he worked for the past 10 years.

George Arocha, the port’s new director and general manager of cargo and terminal operations, will be responsible for providing customer service to existing cargo clients, managing projects and overseeing operations at Canaveral’s new container terminal facilities. For the past 13 years, he has managed the Port of Miami Terminal Operating Company, coordinating daily operations at a multi-user container terminal.

Shannon Feeley joined the Port Canaveral staff as a communications intern in 2003 and subsequently assumed increasing levels of responsibility for business development with a focus on cargo operations. As the new assistant director of cargo business development, she will continue creating contacts and identifying growth opportunities while partnering with Mr. Cabrera in executing cargo business development strategy.

Long Beach Harbor Commission Names Cameron Port’s Environmental Chief

The Long Beach Board of Harbor Commissioners has promoted Richard D. Cameron to managing director of environmental affairs and planning for the Port of Long Beach.

Mr. Cameron has been the port’s acting managing director of environmental affairs and planning since the retirement last July of Robert Kanter. At the time, he had been director of environmental planning since 2007. He joined the port in 1996 as an environmental specialist. The port’s four managing director positions report directly to the executive director and deputy executive director.

Mr. Cameron will oversee a bureau that includes 41 budgeted full-time positions of the environmental planning, transportation planning and master planning divisions.

The environmental affairs and planning bureau is tasked with improving the environment in and around the port.  It is responsible for analyzing proposed construction, obtaining funding for transportation improvements, studying job creation and economic impacts, advancing clean technologies and making sure land uses are consistent with the Coastal Act. Pursuant to Long Beach’s Green Port Policy, the bureau coordinates programs to improve air, water and soil quality, preserve wildlife habitat and integrate sustainability into port practices.

Mr. Cameron has a bachelor’s degree in urban and regional planning from California State Polytechnic University, Pomona. He chairs the AAPA Environment Committee.

Oakland Appoints John Driscoll Maritime Director 

Port of Oakland Executive Director Chris Lytle has named maritime industry veteran John C. Driscoll the port’s new director of maritime, effective January 27.

Mr. Driscoll most recently served as the Vice President of Export Sales CMA CGM (America) LLC, a leading global container shipping group.  As director of maritime, Mr. Driscoll is responsible for building and growing maritime business through efficient operations, stakeholder engagement and strategic planning. He will oversee the full range of maritime operations, including administration, finance, customer service, planning and development, and seaport security.

John Driscoll has more than 30 years of commercial experience in international maritime transportation, having worked for Sea-Land Service, Maersk Line and most recently with CMA CGM, where he spearheaded the expansion and development of the company’s interests in the Caribbean, Central America and Northern South America. In 2008, he was promoted to senior vice president where he oversaw sales, trade and marketing for the French carrier’s U.S. operations.

Mr. Driscoll attended the University of Maryland and graduated with a BS in business management with an emphasis on transportation and marketing.
