Canaveral Begins New Cruise Terminal Construction

Port Canaveral recently broke ground on a new cruise facility. With an estimated construction cost of $50.5 million, the 187,500-square-foot Cruise Terminal 1 will be located in the Cove restaurant and retail area on the south side of Canaveral harbor.

Cruise visitors will be able to walk outside the terminal to enjoy port destination options or depart from the terminal and Exploration Tower to enjoy area excursions.

Due for completion in November 2014, the new terminal complex will be able to accommodate 6,000-passenger capacity vessels.

PortMiami's Fumigation Capacity Increases to 6,000 Pallets per Day

PortMiami has substantially expanded its fumigation capacity over the past year and beginning this month will be able to process up to 6,000 pallets of fruit and vegetables per day. That equates to an increase of 2,000 pallets per day since August and a substantial improvement from the previous daily rate of just 600 pallets. The announcement comes just in time for the harvest season in South American countries such as Chile and Peru whose table grapes, asparagus and other produce need to be fumigated to enter to U.S. market.

"The expansion of PortMiami’s fumigation capacity means that we will save exporters time and money, delivering a fresher, quality product to the American consumer," says Port Director Bill Johnson. "We are excited about this new service and the improved efficiency it will provide our customers."
