Oswego Appoints Kirincich Executive Director

Zelko N. Kirincich became executive director of the Port of Oswego Authority, effective January 6.

Mr. Kirincich comes to the upstate New York port from the Tampa Port Authority, where he worked from 1996 to 2013, most recently as deputy port director and chief operating officer. Previously, he worked for 14 years at the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey in engineering, project management and facilities management. Earlier, he was employed as a design engineer at the Syska Hennessey Engineering Group in New York City.

Mr. Kirincich received a bachelor’s degree in engineering from Manhattan College, and a master’s degree in business administration from Manhattan College/Fordham University.

At Oswego, he fills a vacancy created when Port Authority Executive Director Jonathan Daniels was named chief executive of the Mississippi State Port Authority at Gulfport. James Patka has been serving as Oswego’s interim executive director.

San Diego Swears in New Port Commissioner

Garry Bonelli was sworn in January 3 as the Coronado city representative on San Diego’s Board of Port Commissioners.

The port is governed by a seven-member board, of which three members are appointed by the City of San Diego and one each is appointed by the cities of Coronado, Chula Vista, National City and Imperial Beach.

A retired Navy SEAL and rear admiral, Commissioner Bonelli culminated 45 years of active and reserve service in 2013 at the U.S. Naval Special Warfare Command headquartered in Coronado. From his command, he provided the vision and leadership for a 9,000-person worldwide maritime special operations force and directed a $1 billion enterprise.

Commissioner Bonelli has also served as an executive staff member of the San Diego Association of Governments and vice president of communications and vice president of military affairs for the San Diego Regional Chamber of Commerce.

Seattle Commission Sets New Direction for 2014; CEO Yoshitani Confirms Retirement

At its first meeting of 2014, the Port of Seattle Commission on January 7 elected Commissioner Stephanie Bowman and Commissioner Courtney Gregoire to serve as its co-presidents during the coming year.

"We have a balanced commission with a diversity of individual expertise. Our new commission governance structure will allow us to meaningfully impact issues that move our community forward," said Commissioner Bowman. "Our deep thanks to Commissioner Tom Albro for his work as 2013 commission president. He advanced the port’s strategic goals and effectively advocated for the manufacturing and industrial economy in our region.

Commissioner Albro serves as president of the Washington Public Ports Association in 2014, a leadership role that allows him to contribute to federal, state and local policy discussions that advance the interests of the Port of Seattle and all port districts across the state.

Port CEO Tay Yoshitani, who has served in that role since 2007, confirmed he will be stepping down when his current contract expires at the end of June. The port commission will conduct an international search for his replacement. Mr. Yoshitani continues to serve as chairman of the board of the American Association of Port Authorities.

"Tay continues to be a leader on issues central to the success of ports across North America," said Commissioner Albro. "We thank him for his years of valuable service in Seattle, as well as his work to promote international trade and advance the success of maritime and aviation industries."
