If you could use some help boosting your port or organization’s economic development opportunities, then click here to learn more about AAPA’s 2014 Maritime Economic Development Workshop, hosted by the Port of San Diego and being held in San Diego on February 20-21. In addition to getting some great tips on fostering new economic development "partnerships" and how to measure the impacts of those relationships, you’ll hear first-hand accounts of how ports are attracting new exports and exporters, what BCOs (beneficial cargo owners) look for when they are choosing a port, and ideas for increasing cargo "velocity" through improved supply chain logistics that help reduce costs and attract business.

The main attraction is slated for the afternoon of the first day, which will feature a unique interactive, problem-solving session that relies heavily on audience participation. Facilitated by Lauren Brand, the U.S. Maritime Administration’s director of the Office of Marine Highways and Passenger Services, the session will feature three different infrastructure projects that have investment funding challenges to overcome. By encouraging a dialogue between the audience and the representatives for each of three infrastructure projects being examined, the session’s goal is to identify alternatives, opportunities and challenges for improving the success of each of the three selected projects, as well as provide help for similar projects being considered or undertaken throughout the Western Hemisphere.
