AAPA Issues Request for Technical Assistance

AAPA has signed a cooperation agreement with the U.S. Maritime Administration to work together on a port planning and investment toolkit. Many ports struggle to attract public and private capital for infrastructure projects in part because there is no go-to guide detailing how to describe and justify investment needs.

The goal of this project is to develop tools that will assist ports in obtaining funding in a variety of ways: (1) improve the chances of getting port infrastructure projects in MPO and state transportation plans in order to receive formula funding; (2) better position port projects for federal funding such as TIGER grants; and (3) assist ports in obtaining private sector funding.

A Request for Technical Assistance seeking volunteers to assist in the project was released on December 13, 2013 with responses requested by January 10, 2014. AAPA also will be hiring a contractor, through a separate process, to conduct focus groups and other meetings of these technical experts and to develop the tool kit.
