Oregon Gov. John Kitzhaber has appointed and the Oregon Senate Rules Committee has confirmed Robert E. Garcia and Brianna S. Hanson as members of the board of commissioners of the Oregon International Port of Coos Bay. The Long Beach City Council has confirmed Mayor Bob Foster’s appointment of the city’s former chief financial officer (CFO), to the Board of Harbor Commissioners, which oversees the Port of Long Beach and the staff of the City’s Harbor Department. The Nanaimo Port Authority has implemented some important staff changes, including the promotion of David Mailloux to manager, communication and public affairs.  

Coos Bay Port Commission Nominees Confirmed by Oregon State Senate 

Oregon Gov. John Kitzhaber has appointed and the Oregon Senate Rules Committee has confirmed Robert E. Garcia and Brianna S. Hanson as members of the board of commissioners of the Oregon International Port of Coos Bay

Mr. Garcia has been tribal chairman of the Confederated Tribes of the Coos, Lower Umpqua and Siuslaw Indians since 2007. Previously he was the Confederated Tribes’ economic development director from 2003-2007. 

Mrs. Hanson is an analyst with The Sentient Group, a private equity firm, and also works as director of sales, marketing and logistics for Oregon Resources Corp. She also worked for several years in the commercial real estate industry. 

Both commissioners officially take their seats in January and are scheduled to serve until November 2017. They replace Jerry Hampel and R. Brady Scott, who served from 2004 until their terms expired. The other port commissioners are: President David Kronsteiner, owner of West Coast Contractors Inc.; Vice President Eric Farm, manager of The Campbell Group LLC’s North Bend operations; and Secretary Donna Opitz, a Realtor with Pacific Properties.

The port is focusing on renewed investment in the Charleston Harbor Complex facilities, the revitalization and continuing expansion of service on the Coos Bay rail line, and new maritime commerce projects. 

Long Beach City Council Approves Lori Ann Farrell for Harbor Commission

The Long Beach City Council has confirmed Mayor Bob Foster’s appointment of the city’s former chief financial officer (CFO) to the Board of Harbor Commissioners, which oversees the Port of Long Beach and the staff of the City’s Harbor Department.

Lori Ann Farrell will fill one of two vacancies on the five-member Harbor Commission. The commissioners are appointed by the mayor to a maximum of two six-year terms and are compensated $100 per board meeting.

Currently director of finance for the City of Huntington Beach, Ms. Farrell was Long Beach’s CFO from 2007 to 2010, and its controller from 2006-2007. She has been a Long Beach resident for 14 years.

Her degrees include a master’s in public administration from Columbia University School of International and Public Affairs in New York and a bachelor’s in anthropology from Barnard College at Columbia University.

Nanaimo Announces New Staff and Realignment

The Nanaimo Port Authority has implemented some important staff changes, including the promotion of David Mailloux to manager, communication and public affairs. Mr. Mailloux, the port’s manager, community relations/marina since April 2003, is now responsible for a wide range of communication functions, including community engagement and development of stakeholder relations.

Greg Entwistle, Nanaimo’s newly named marina manager, has worked on the port authority’s financial administration staff since 1994.

Jordan Bryski, who has worked for the port authority in various temporary capacities for more than six years, is now employed full time in the position of wharfinger/maintenance. He brings to his position knowledge of marina operations and the users of the downtown waterfront.

The port authority has also hired Arlene Rolston as an executive assistant, replacing Lorraine Markin, who retired November 1 after 26 years of service. Ms. Rolston comes to the port with a professional background at the Coastal Community Credit Union.

"We are in a transition phase at the port," said Bernie Dumas, the port authority’s president and CEO. "I am very pleased with the adjustments we are making to deal with the dynamic market conditions we are anticipating and the expectations of our valued stakeholders and clients!"
