The American Association of Port Authorities’ 102nd Annual Convention in Orlando/Port Canaveral, October 13-17, drew about 700 participants from all four of the association’s Western Hemisphere geographic regions (Canada, United States, Caribbean and Latin America). Hosted by the Canaveral Port Authority, the convention agenda included a robust business program of top-tier business and government presenters, complemented by a vast and vibrant array of entertainment and networking activities, concluding on the final day with an evening gala for the outgoing chairman.

Business presenters such as port economist John C. Martin, Ph.D., and Goldman Sachs Managing Director David Levy shared their visions of global trade recovery, while to strategic communications expert Scott Summerfield discussed his views on preparing executives for media interviews prior to crises. Additionally, Ceres Terminals Inc. Senior VP Bruce Cashon and Global Logistics Development Partners’ Economic Development Team Lead Lois Yates, CEcD, provided perspectives on the future of port authorities.

Keynoting the conference were Canadian Ambassador to the U.S. Gary Doer and Florida Gov. Richard L. "Rick" Scott, who focused their remarks on creating jobs and opportunities for economic growth. Gov. Scott also announced his plans to request $34.8 million in state aid for infrastructure funding at several Florida ports, including Port Canaveral, Port Everglades and the Port of Tampa.
