New York City: Kyle E. Kimball to Succeed Seth Pinsky as President of NYCEDC

Mayor Bloomberg has nominated Kyle E. Kimball to be the next president of the New York City Economic Development Corporation (NYCEDC). Mr. Kimball will replace Seth W. Pinsky, who is leaving the position to pursue a private-sector opportunity as an executive vice president at RXR Realty.

NYCEDC is a non-profit organization that functions as a city agency, charged with encouraging economic growth in New York City by facilitating real estate development, improving infrastructure, attracting and retaining businesses, and conducting economic research and analysis. Its sphere of responsibility extends to the city waterfront, including a container terminal on Staten Island leased from the Port Authority of New York & New Jersey and cruise terminals in Brooklyn and Manhattan. The corporation and its predecessor New York City agencies have been AAPA corporate members since the association’s founding in 1912.

Mr. Kimball is currently executive director of NYCEDC, in which he oversees the operating, financial and external affairs divisions of the organization. He will officially assume the role of president in August, subject to the approval of the NYCEDC Board of Directors at their August meeting.

He joined NYCEDC in 2008, taking charge of its Real Estate Transaction Services Group with responsibility for negotiating real estate deals on behalf of the city. He subsequently served as chief financial officer and then as chief operating officer before becoming executive director in December 2012.

Oakland Port Commissioners Elect Officers

The Oakland Board of Port Commissioners earlier this month ratified the election of officers for the fiscal year that began July 1, 2013. They include Cestra "Ces" Butner to serve as president, Alan S. Yee as first vice-president, and Earl S. Hamlin as second vice-president.

Commissioner Butner is the president, CEO and owner of Horizon Beverage Company, an Oakland-based beverage distributorship that supplies retailers in Northern Alameda County and Western Contra Costa County. His community service work includes serving on the boards of the East Bay YMCA, Oakland Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce, and as president of Sequoyah Country Club.

Alan S. Yee has more than 30 years of legal experience and currently serves as partner in the law firm of Siegel & Yee. Mr. Yee has litigated commercial cases involving trade and international commerce, representing businesses in trade with companies in China, Hong Kong and Taiwan.

Commissioner Earl S. Hamlin’s actual job title of General Whatnot at investment bank Hambrecht & Quist described his varied activities there (financial analysis, corporate finance and venture capital) and a diverse range of company clients (anything outside of technology). His varied work and vocational experiences include warehouseman, real estate sales, community organizer, political operative, Alameda County Planning Commissioner and treasurer of the Chabot Space & Science Center. He holds a Chartered Financial Analyst designation.

By City Charter, the board consists of seven members who are nominated by the Oakland mayor and appointed by the Oakland City Council to staggered four-year terms. There are no limits to the number of terms to which a commissioner can be appointed to serve.
