The blistering Baltimore heat notwithstanding, AAPA’s Port Security Seminar & Expo, July 17-19, was a marvelous success in every respect, thanks to excellent speakers and presentations, spirited audience participation, the warm and generous hospitality of our host, the Maryland Port Administration, and the hard work of the AAPA Security Committee and its chairman, Joe Lawless of the Massachusetts Port Authority.

Attendance was strong, totaling approximately 170 registrants, some from as far away as Argentina and Colombia. Equally gratifying was the support of the companies that sponsored meals and receptions and purchased exhibit space to display their products and services.

The opening panel offered federal perspectives on port security. Subsequent sessions focused on TWIC issues and challenges, facility security officer (FSO) training, port security grants, cyber security, active shooter scenarios, maritime suspicious activity reporting, Super Storm Sandy as a case study in emergency response and recovery, and a 10th anniversary review of MTSA – the Marine Transportation Security Act. Click here for downloads of the seminar presentations.

The 2014 Port Security Seminar and Expo also will be in Baltimore.
