The Tampa Port Authority has joined in a "sister port" agreement with the Argentine port of Quequén. The signing of the memorandum of understanding by Jim Pyburn, Tampa’s director of trade development and Latin America, and Isaias Miqueles of Consorcio de Gestión del Puerto de Quequén on June 27 occurred during AAPA’s Latin American Congress of Ports in Bogotá, Colombia.

In the document, the two ports express a desire to share "technical expertise, logistics and administration to their mutual benefit and their related communities through greater exchange of goods through both ports."

Quequén is located in the southeastern Buenos Aires province and is one of Argentina’s leading grain exporting ports. Other top cargos are petroleum and fertilizer. Both ports are AAPA Corporate members.

"We are delighted to engage in this very meaningful memorandum of understanding with the Port of Quequén," said Tampa Port Director & CEO Paul Anderson. "We recognize this special sister port agreement as a milestone in our trade and marketing relations with a key trade partner in Latin America, and we look forward to a mutually beneficial relationship for many years to come."

Tampa has similar agreements with the port authorities of Veracruz, Mexico; Tampico, Mexico; and Gijon, Spain; Junta de Administración Portuaria y de Desarrollo Económico de la Vertiente Atlántica (JAPDEVA) of Limón/Moin in Costa Rica; and the Panamá Canal Authority.
