Corpus Christi Port Commissioner Canales Sworn In

Barbara A. Canales was officially sworn as a Corpus Christi port commissioner by Nueces County Judge Lloyd Neal at a ceremony held June 21 at the port administration building. She was selected by Nueces County Commissioners to fill the port commission vacancy created by the recent resignation of Mike D. Scott. She will complete the remainder of Mr. Scott’s term.

Ms. Canales is a practicing attorney, a partner of Mother Ocean, LLC, and an active member of the South Texas community. Her degrees include a BS in petroleum engineering from The University of Texas at Austin and a JD from the University of Houston.

Her professional and civic memberships include University of Texas at Austin College of Engineering Advisory Board, Ready or Not Foundation, Canales Foundation, Education is our Freedom Scholarship Foundation, Eagleford Shale Consortium Committee, and the South Texas Institute of the Arts Development Committee. 

The Corpus Christi Port Commission is the governing body of the Port of Corpus Christi Authority. It consists of seven commissioners. Three are appointed by the City of Corpus Christi, three by Nueces County and one by San Patricio County. The commissioners serve without pay and are each eligible to serve a maximum of four three-year terms.
