The board of directors of the New York Shipping Association (NYSA) has appointed John Nardi as president of the association. Mr. Nardi, NYSA’s executive vice president since 2011, succeeds Joseph C. Curto in this post. NYSA represents carriers and marine terminal operators in the Port of New York and New Jersey.

The association has also appointed Chuck Darrell executive vice president and chief operating officer and Susan Winfree vice president, training, and workforce development/corporate diversity officer.

A nearly 30-year veteran of the maritime industry, Mr. Nardi began his career with Atlantic Container Line (ACL), first with its trucking division, later its terminal operating affiliate, Atlantic Coast Stevedores, and finally as general manager of liner and terminal operations.

In 1994, he joined Hapag-Lloyd (America) Inc., where he held a series of management positions. He was instrumental in integrating CP Ships North American Operations with Hapag-Lloyd’s after CP Ships was acquired in 2005. He assumed full operational responsibility for Latin and South America in July 2009, when Hapag-Lloyd merged its North America and Latin America Operations.

Mr. Nardi is a graduate of the State University of New York Maritime College, where he completed a bachelor's degree and earned a third mate’s license. He has served as chairman of the Ocean Carrier Equipment Management Association, a member of the Board of Directors of Consolidated Chassis Management, and as a working group member of the World Shipping Council.
