Green Bay Cargo Jumps in April

The 2013 shipping season is off to a fast start at the Port of Green Bay, with April tonnage skyrocketing 117 percent from last year’s level.

"We had a great April," said Dean Haen, Green Bay’s port and solid waste director. "The port had 15 ship arrivals that transported more than 192,000 metric tons of cargo. Last April we only had about 88,000."

Despite a somewhat slower start to the shipping season due to poor weather conditions, Mr. Haen says the strong numbers are a good sign: "We take things one month at a time. As the economy improves, we will hopefully continue to see larger tonnage totals throughout the season."

The Port of Green Bay is served by 14 active terminal operators:
  • C. Reiss Coal Company
  • Construction Resource Management
  • Flint Hills Resources
  • Fox River Dock Company
  • Georgia-Pacific Corporation
  • Great Lakes Calcium Corporation
  • KK Integrated Logistics, Inc.
  • LaFarge North America
