Beaumont Port Commission Swears in Members, Elects Officers

Pat Anderson was sworn in May 20 for his first term as a Beaumont port commissioner. Mr. Anderson is a sales executive for Becker Printing Company. He also serves the community as a volunteer deputy sheriff for Jefferson County and is active in a number of civic and charitable organizations in the Beaumont area.  

Among other things, he chairs the Salvation Army advisory board, serves on the board of directors and the foundation board for Rotary Club of Beaumont, and is a member of the Jefferson Theatre Preservation Society board of directors. He is an "Ambassador Emeritus" for the Beaumont Chamber of Commerce and serves on that organization’s advisory board. He also is a graduate of Leadership Beaumont and Leadership Southeast Texas.

Also taking the oath at the May 20 board meeting was re-elected Port Commissioner C.A. "Pete" Shelton. Appointed to the board in 1989, he served as vice president from 1995 to 2001 and has been president ever since.  

During the meeting, the board re-elected Commissioner Shelton to another two-year term as president. It also named Commissioner Lee Smith to succeed retiring Commissioner Henry H.M. Nix as vice president and re-elected Commissioner Georgine Guillory secretary-treasurer. Mr. Smith joined the board of commissioners in 2002. Ms. Guillory has been a port commissioner since 2003.
