The Port of Baltimore welcomed the newest addition to its auto portfolio on May 24 when approximately 2500 Fiat 500 L’s arrived at Fairfield Marine Terminal aboard the Grimaldi car carrier Grand Benelux. They are the first of 30,000 Fiat 500 L’s that are expected to arrive in Maryland from Fiat’s Serbia assembly plant. According to the Maryland Port Administration (MPA), the new vehicle business will help create 220 Maryland jobs, including 80 direct jobs. Auto Warehousing Corporation is the auto processor.

Through the first four months of 2013, Baltimore’s auto trade was running equal to last year’s record pace. During 2012, the port’s public and private marine terminals handled 652,000 vehicles, an increase of 18 percent from 2011. According to the MPA, the port’s auto business generates more than 1,000 direct jobs.
