Port Metro Vancouver Opens 2013 Cruise Season, Anticipates Impressive Growth

Port Metro Vancouver’s 2013 Alaska cruise season began April 18 with the docking of Holland America’s Zaandam, bring the first of the 820,000 passengers and 191 vessel calls the port authority is expecting this season at its Canada Place and Ballantyne cruise terminals. That will be up from 667,000 passengers and 161 ship calls in 2012.
  
Developments this year include the return of Disney Wonder to homeport in Vancouver with 16 roundtrip sailings and more than 75,000 passengers. Norwegian Sun homeports in Vancouver, with nine sailings between Vancouver and Whittier (AK) bringing more than 45,000 passengers. Also returning is Holland America Line’s Amsterdam, bringing approximately 269,000 passengers or 50,000 more than in 2012.

"Port Metro Vancouver provides cruise passengers with a unique offering, combining award-winning customer service, specialized cruise itineraries and a journey to Alaska through Canada’s stunning inside passage,” said Port Authority President & CEO Robin Silvester. "The growth we are seeing for 2013 translates into a real economic boost for the region, bringing $80 million more in economic activity to local businesses, restaurants, hotels, shopping and tours than in 2012.”
