Honda will begin shipping autos to the Port of Davisville starting in 2014. The autos will be finished and processed by North Atlantic Distribution, Inc (NORAD), a tenant of the Quonset Business Park. According to NORAD President Michael Miranda, "Honda anticipates bringing in approximately 25,000 autos within its first year, with even higher numbers the years following.” They will come from a new Honda manufacturing facility in Celaya, Mexico.

That will add impetus to the Rhode Island port’s already flourishing auto trade. In 2012, a record 172,448 imported automobiles arrived by ship at Davisville, an increase of 14 percent from the previous record set in 2011 and more than 10 times the volume handled just 15 years ago. In 2012 as well, the port received 41,352 autos by rail and 2,389 by truck.

Automakers currently shipping vehicles through Davisville include Volkswagen, Audi, Subaru, Porsche, Ford and Bentley.
