Saint John Cargo Sets First Quarter Record

It was a record-breaking first quarter for Port Saint John, highlighted by traffic increases from a year ago in these areas: 
  • Potash up 141 percent to an all-time high of 277,249 metric tons
  • Forest products up 32 percent, with woodpulp alone soaring 71 percent to 22,517 tons from 13,136 tons in first quarter 2012
  • Containerized cargo up 72 percent from 63,984 tonnes to 110,128 tonnes
  • Container TEUs up 52 percent from 10,978 to 16,645 TEUs
"As we move into the second quarter of 2013, we are pleased that our partners are experiencing cargo gains in many sectors of our business,” said Port Authority President & CEO Jim Quinn. "Increased activity at the port will bring added prosperity to the region.”
