Palm Beach Port District Chairman George E. Mastics and Executive Director Manuel Almira were singled out for honors earlier this month by Florida Gov. Rick Scott.

"For your commitment to making sure Florida is a global hub of business, I would like to present both of you with the Governor’s Business Ambassador Medal,” said Gov. Scott as he presented the award. "This medal symbolizes our appreciation for your work in expanding opportunities for Florida families.”

The awards were presented on March 21 during the governor’s first visit to the South Florida port. Mr. Almira escorted Gov. Scott on a tour highlighting the $26.2 million restoration project at Slip 3, while discussing future port growth and funding needs.

"What an honor to be recognized by Gov. Scott,” said Chairman Mastics. "This medal really symbolizes all that the port does to be an economic engine for Palm Beach County.”

The governor held a press conference to highlight his dedication to infrastructure improvement at ports across the state. He also recognized local manufacturers who do business with the Port of Palm Beach while promoting his proposed elimination of the statesales tax on manufacturing equipment.

"Gov. Scott’s visit to the Port of Palm Beach was a great opportunity to show him what we at the port are currently doing, and what we plan to do in the future to promote business and job creation in our area,” said Mr. Almira. "We hope this will be the first of many opportunities for us to welcome Gov. Scott to our port.
