The Board of Commissioners of the Port of Brownsville on March 26 unanimously approved the port’s TIGER IV grant agreement with the U.S. Department of Transportation. The $12 million grant will be administered by the Maritime Administration and will be used to construct an all-purpose cargo dock. Port money will cover the balance of the estimated $27,525,000 construction cost. Construction is scheduled to begin in June 2013 and be completed by the end of 2014.

Cargo Dock 16 will be the port’s second heavy-load capacity dock. It will support the port’s efforts to grow its container and bulk cargo businesses.

Said Port Director and CEO Eduardo A. Campirano: "The TIGER IV grant will aid us in completing the construction of the dock project and allow us to accomplish our goal of continued growth as an international port and create jobs for the region.
