The Jacksonville Port Authority (JAXPORT) has named veteran JAXPORT marketing executive Alberto Cabrera director/general manager of trade development and marketing. In his new position, Mr. Cabrera is responsible for the overall management of cargo sales activities and the development of strategic marketing.

Mr. Cabrera joined JAXPORT’s marketing team in 2003 as manager of Latin American sales, responsible for the South American and Caribbean markets, as well as the lift-on/lift-off and roll-on/roll-off cargo sectors. He was promoted to director of cargo sales and global marketing in 2006, taking on the additional responsibility of overseeing JAXPORT’s break bulk and bulk businesses.

Previously, he worked 11 years for the Jacksonville-based shipping line Trailer Bridge, first in the vehicle shipping department and then as a terminal manager in operations. Before that, he was employed by Stevens Shipping and Navieras de Puerto Rico.

He was recently elected president of the Propeller Club of Jacksonville.

"Alberto has continually shown a solid understanding of how to sell this port and how to maintain the type of industry relationships which are so critical to our success,” said JAXPORT Interim CEO Roy Schleicher. "I have been fortunate to supervise Alberto for almost a decade, and I am confident he has the abilities to lead our marketing efforts through these times of unprecedented opportunity.
