Port of Hueneme CEO and Port Director Kristin Decas was recently appointed to a two-year term on the Marine Transportation System National Advisory Council (MTSNAC) by U.S. Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood

MTSNAC offers advice and recommendations on the effective use and expansion of America’s marine highways, waterways and ports, along with their intermodal, road, rail and maritime connections. The council also creates guidelines from a marine perspective for the development of a national freight policy for the secretary of transportation, working through the U.S. maritime administrator.

In an earlier speech, Secretary LaHood asked the council for insight on how to better integrate America’s waterways into the existing intermodal freight transportation system by taking advantage of the inherent environmental and energy benefits of marine transportation to reduce congestion on the nation’s highways and rail lines.

Ms. Decas was named Port Hueneme’s chief executive in January 2012, after serving since 2007 as executive director of the Port of New Bedford. She sits on AAPA’s Board of Directors. She also chairs the AAPA Maritime Economic Development Committee and the committee’s Short-Sea Shipping Working Group.
