Los Angeles: Janna Sidley Named Port’s General Counsel

Janna Sidley has been named general counsel for the Port of Los Angeles. In that role, she supervises the city attorney’s port operations and serves as in-house counsel to port management and the Los Angeles Harbor Commission. She replaces Tom Russell, who retired last year.

Ms. Sidley joined the Los Angeles City Attorney’s Office in 2003 and has worked as a trial deputy specializing in workers' compensation fraud and unfair business practices. In 2006, she was assigned to the Harbor Department, focusing on California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) and National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) matters. In 2010, she transferred to the Department of Water and Power and has been responsible for all legal compliance requirements related to CEQA and NEPA.

Earlier, Ms. Sidley was an assistant United States attorney in Los Angeles from 1998 to 2002. She also worked in Washington, D.C. at the U.S. Department of Justice, the U.S. Department of the Interior and the White House.  

Ms. Sidley earned a BA from the University of California, Berkeley and a JD from Loyola Law School in Los Angeles. Her new duties began March 4.
