A record 172,448 imported automobiles arrived by ship at the Port of Davisville in 2012. That was up 14 percent from the previous record set in 2011, more than 10 times the volume handled just 15 years ago, and gave the Rhode Island port its third consecutive year of double-digit growth. In 2012 as well, the port received 41,352 autos by rail and 2,389 by truck.

Vehicles arriving at Davisville are processed, finished and distributed nationwide by North Atlantic Distribution, Inc. (NORAD), a long-time tenant of the Quonset Business Park with more than 300 employees.

Quonset, the site of a former U.S. Navy base, is now home to more than 175 companies employing approximately 9,100 people in full-time and part-time jobs across several industries. The business park is owned and managed by Quonset Development Corporation (QDC), an agency of Rhode Island state government. QDC receives no state funding; its operating revenues come from the park and the port.
