Port of Beaumont Commissioner H. M. “Henry” Nix Jr., announced Jan. 28 that he would not be running for reelection, signaling the end of his 30 years’ service to the port. His term current ends May 20, 2013.

Mr. Nix was first elected port commissioner in April 1983 and ran unopposed in all subsequent elections. He held various positions on the board and served as its vice president during most of his tenure. He played an integral role in the board’s oversight of the port’s growth and success, particularly during the past 10 years, when the port undertook and completed the largest capital expansion program in its history, including the new Orange County Terminal.

Henry Nix is one of the most conscientious and caring men I have ever known. His leadership and mentorship have been invaluable to our port. On behalf of the port commission and staff, he will be truly missed,” said Port Director Chris Fisher
