Massport Hires Deputy Port Director of Business Development
 
Lauren Gleason, a career specialist in supply chain and transportation, is joining the Massachusetts Port Authority (Massport) as deputy port director of business development. She assumes the post at a time of record traffic flows at Massport’s cruise and container terminals.
 
Gleason will be responsible for developing the long-term sales and marketing strategies for all maritime initiatives, including containerized cargo as well as cruise tourism.  
 
She will work with maritime staff at Massport, beneficial cargo owners, shipping and cruise industry representatives, and internal and external partners integral to the success and support of the Port.  She will provide support and promote strategic growth to the New England business community as well as implement initiatives to build and strengthen services, volumes, and targeted business development objectives. 
 
She will also formulate marketing strategies to expand Massport’s footprint in both the cargo and cruise industries, research, create revenue in new areas and improve the overall position of the Port of Boston on a global scale.  
 
Gleason’s career in supply chain and transportation began at Hanjin Shipping, where she spent more than five years as New England Sales Manager with responsibility for all sales, strategic initiatives, and operations involving New England and Canada-based importers and exporters.  Prior to joining Massport, she worked as senior manager, international supply chain, for home goods e-retailer Wayfair, Inc. 
 
Gleason graduated from the University of Rhode Island, with dual degrees in Global Business Management and Spanish Language and Literature. She has been involved with industry groups such as CONECT (Coalition of New England Companies for Trade) and Westconn International Trade Association.
 
 
Port Everglades’ Maisy Alpert Awarded Accreditation in Public Relations
 
Port Everglades communications professional Maisy Alpert has attained the Accreditation in Public Relations (APR) designation conferred by the Universal Accreditation Board (UAB), a consortium of nine organizations that direct this competency credentialing program. 
 
"Earning the APR reflects a mastery of the knowledge, skills and abilities needed to succeed in our increasingly complex profession," said Judy Katzel, APR, 2017 chair of the Universal Accreditation Board. "Practitioners who achieve the designation are demonstrating their commitment not only to our profession, but also to a strong code of ethics and to the betterment of their organizations and clients."
 
Alpert has some 25 years of port and maritime commerce experience, including nearly 15 years in public relations and corporate communications/community relations with the port’s Business Development Division. She holds a bachelor's degree and post-graduate studies in accounting and business for CPA licensing. She is active with the Public Relations Society of America, the American Association of Port Authorities, and the Florida Port Council. In 2016, her Corporate & Community Relations team at Port Everglades received AAPA’s Award of Overall Communications Excellence.
