Oakland Port Board elects Joan Story as President

Joan Story has been elected to a one-year term as president of the board of port commissioners at the Port of Oakland. The port’s seven-member governing body unanimously selected Ms. Story for the post at its meeting of July 13.

A board member since July 2015, Ms. Story is a real estate attorney with the international law firm of Sheppard, Mullin, Richter & Hampton. She graduated from Occidental College and subsequently received a master’s in political science from UCLA and a law degree from UC Davis. She is a former member of The Trust for Public Land California Advisory Board and the board of the Child Care Law Center.

As president, Ms. Story succeeds Commissioner Michael Colbruno, who remains a board member.  At that same meeting, the board also elected Cestra "Ces" Butner as first vice president and Andreas Cluver as second vice-president for terms of one year each.

Board members are appointed by the Mayor of Oakland, subject to the approval of the city council.

The other commissioners are Earl S. Hammons, Arabella Martinez, and Alan S. Yee.
