Milwaukee: New Crane Makes its First Big Lift

Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett was on hand February 6 when the Port of Milwaukee’s new crawler crane made its first heavy lift – the 200,000-pound main frame of a locally manufactured mining shovel.

Manufactured by a Wisconsin company, the $2.7-million crane was delivered in late 2016, joining the port’s complement of other crawler, gantry and derrick cranes. Financing came from the city of Milwaukee.

The Port of Milwaukee is an economic entity of city government and governed by a seven-member Board of Harbor Commissioners appointed by the mayor and confirmed by the Common Council.

"This new crane is a city infrastructure investment that supports the port’s operations and serves the transportation needs of local companies," Mayor Barrett said.
