San Diego Ranked Among Top Five Cruise Destinations in the United States and Canada

Cruise Critic recently named the Port of San Diego one of the top five cruise destinations in the United States and Canada.

A Cruise Critic survey found that selecting a cruise destination is the most important part of the planning process for both first-time cruisers and experienced cruisers.

The awards program is based on consumer ratings submitted with reviews on the Cruise Critic website. It ranks favorite cruise destinations from 15 world regions - Alaska, Australia & New Zealand, Hawaii, Western Mediterranean, Baltic & Scandinavia, Eastern Caribbean, Canada & U.S., and so forth.

Others among the top U.S. and Canadian destinations were San Francisco, Bar Harbor, Key West and Halifax. View the full listings.

Ninety cruise calls are scheduled for San Diego during 2016-17, a 30 percent increase from the 2015-16 season. San Diego is homeport for Disney Cruise Line, Norwegian Cruise Lines, Holland America Line and Celebrity Cruises. According to the port, each homeported cruise generates nearly $2 million in economic impact to the region.

"The cruise industry is very important to the Port of San Diego and the region," said Port CEO Randa Coniglio. "Not only does it have a huge economic impact, but it’s part of what makes the waterfront a dynamic and active destination. Over the past few years, the port has completed numerous improvements to ensure that our cruise customers have an enjoyable experience."
