Port Manatee Enters Mutual Aid Pact

Port Manatee has joined other Tampa Bay area ports in an emergency assistance pact. The Manatee County Port Authority board approved the interlocal agreement between Manatee, Tampa Bay and St. Petersburg on September 15.

Under the 25-year agreement, the three ports express willingness to assist and support one another with supplemental equipment, supplies, docks, mooring areas, facilities and/or related assets, pursuant to the Florida Interlocal Cooperation Act. The agreement also allows for mutual assistance with training for emergencies.

"Whereas each of our ports remains a distinct entity, it is to the benefit of all that we are in position to support each other in the event of an emergency situation," said Betsy Benac, chairwoman of the Manatee County Port Authority.
