Halifax Port Authority President and CEO Contract Extension
The board of directors of the Halifax Port Authority has extended Karen Oldfield’s contract as president and chief executive officer through December 2018. Ms. Oldfield joined the port authority as chief executive in January 2002 and before that was chief of staff to Nova Scotia Premier John Hamm. She is a graduate of Dalhousie Law School and was a partner in a law firm from 1985 to 1999.
She has served AAPA in many capacities – as a member of the Executive Committee, Board of Directors, and Curriculum Committee and as chair of the Association’s Canadian port delegation. She has also served on the board of the Association of Canadian Port Authorities.

Vornholt Confirmed for a Four-Year Term as Milwaukee Port Director
Paul Vornholt has received a four-year extension as director of Port Milwaukee. His reappointment by Mayor Tom Barrett was confirmed July 6 by the Milwaukee Common Council.
Mr. Vornholt joined the port as operations and marketing director. He was named interim port director following the retirement in 2012 of Eric Reinelt and affirmed as port director in 2015. Earlier, he was the city’s director of intergovernmental relations, worked on Mayo Barrett’s staff and served as an administrator in the state attorney general’s office.
"Paul has led Port Milwaukee with a steady hand. He has earned a reputation for efficient operations, infrastructure improvements, and strong financial management," Mayor Barrett said. "Our port is an asset to the regional economy, and Paul’s leadership is maximizing the port’s economic impact."

New Orleans Port CEO LaGrange Appointed to U.S. DOT’s Maritime Transportation System Advisory Committee
The U.S. Maritime Administration has appointed Gary LaGrange, PPM®, president and chief executive of the
The committee provides information, advice and recommendations to the U.S. Secretary of Transportation on matters relating to the U.S. marine transportation system and seamless integration with other segments of the transportation system, including the viability of the U.S. Merchant Marine.
The committee consists of executives of shipping lines, public port agencies, and shippers, as well as heads of government agencies involved in marine transportation. Mr. LaGrange’s two-year term begins this month.
"This is truly an honor to be appointed by the Maritime Administration to serve on this Committee," Mr. LaGrange said. "The Nation’s maritime infrastructure is of vital importance not just to shippers and the maritime transportation industry, but to consumers and the overall economy, as well. It is my goal to help spread that message, while working to invest in our nation’s ports, waterways and last-mile connectors."
