AAHOA News

The month of December brings yet another installment in the 12 Points Webinar Series! Point 5, which covers vendor exclusivity, rebates, and affiliated companies as vendors was released this Tuesday.

Point 5 of AAHOA's 12 Points of Fair Franchising sheds lights on mandated vendors, rebates and kickbacks, and increased costs of products and services, all of which can ultimately raise prices for hotel guests. In this latest webinar, President & CEO Laura Lee Blake and Lifetime Member Vimal Patel share the importance of Point 5 and why Franchisees should be free to buy conforming goods from any vendor, not just those mandated by the Franchisor.

"The vendor issues have astronomically become a problem financially, as well as a disservice in the products that brands are forcing and mandating onto the franchisees," AAHOA Lifetime Member Vimal Patel explained.

If you haven't already, we strongly encourage you to watch the previous webinars on AAHOA's 12 Points landing page. The 12 Points Webinar Series is a powerful educational tool to help current and future Franchisees understand the terms in franchise agreements.

In the Market

Truist Securities reports, “Last week’s RevPAR was against a +126.7% comparable result in 2021 vs. +117.1% in the prior week. On a 3-year run-rate (vs. 2019), RevPAR was +14.0% vs. +1.7% in the prior week’s 3-year run-rate. Upscale RevPAR: +21.0% y/y and +6.4% over 3 years; Upper Midscale RevPAR: +11.3% y/y and +13.5% over 3 years. Last week's results were a healthy recovery from the soft demand in the prior week, particularly seen in midweek occupancy (+ individual business and group). While December is an imperfect month to analyze due to seasonally reduced travel, the good news is we did not see two soft clean comp weeks in a row.”
