AAHOA News

AAHOA President & CEO Laura Lee Blake was interviewed live on the Erin Burnett OutFront show on CNN to speak out against the Los Angeles ordinance that would require hotels to board the unhoused in empty rooms for the night.

Blake shared the impact this measure would have on hotel owners in Los Angeles and in other cities in the U.S., if voters pass it at the next general city election.

“We feel that this is an ill-advised and misguided ordinance because it will have a devastating impact on the hotels as well as the tourism industry across the city,” Blake said. “The other concern is that if this passes in Los Angeles, then other cities across the country could also be looking at passing similar legislation. Our members across the country are watching this very closely due to concerns on what this could mean.”

The Employee Retention Credit has been one of the most beneficial tax credits available to hotels that have been financially impacted by COVID-19. Due to various updates and changes to the legislation, there remain many misconceptions about business eligibility, which has resulted in an underutilization of this tax credit.

If you think you don't qualify, it's time to take a second look. You can claim up to $26k per employee.

In the Market

Truist Securities reports, “Last week’s RevPAR was up against a +68.3% comparable result in 2021 vs. +74.9% in the prior week. On a 3-year run-rate (vs. 2019), RevPAR was +12.1% vs. +12.2% in the prior week’s 3-year run-rate. Upscale RevPAR: +40.4% y/y and +7.1% over 3 years; Upper Midscale RevPAR: +23.3% y/y and +12.3% over 3 years. As discussed previously, weekly comps begin to get very noisy starting with this most recent week. Labor Day shifts by a week in 2019 (tougher comp) and Hurricane Dorian starts to make for an easier comp in Florida markets. Net net, we found results very strong on ADR.”
