The 2021 AAHOA North Central Inaugural Charity Golf Tournament, held last week at Deer Creek Golf Course near Indianapolis, IN, was a resounding success! North Central Regional Director Bhavesh N. Patel and the Regional Ambassadors welcomed a packed field that enjoyed a beautiful day of competitive golf and networking and raised more than $63,000 for Make A Wish Indianapolis, MC Law Enforcement Memorial Association, and Night Angels. We have three golf events remaining on our 2021 schedule, so be sure to sign up for one near you and help us support worthwhile charities and ongoing COVID-19 relief efforts.

Are you looking for extraordinary talent but are not quite sure where to find it? The panel discussion in this AAHOA webcast, "Finding Talent: Partnering with Colleges and Universities," explored how employers utilize university and college hospitality programs to source great talent for their properties. Our esteemed panelists – Dr. Leonard Jackson, Michael A. Leven School of Management, Entrepreneurship and Hospitality; Nathalie St. Remy, Chaplin School of Hospitality & Tourism Management; Brian A. With the current death toll from COVID-19 in India at more than 3.5 million and rising, time is of the essence to support the country as it continues to grapple with the virus’s devastating effects. We’re asking you to sign and send a letter to your U.S. senators and members of the U.S. House of Representatives in support of the NOVID Act (Nullifying Opportunities for Variants to Infect and Decimate). This bill would increase American aid to India, among other countries, by dramatically expanding the nation’s international coronavirus prevention and vaccination efforts. Send your letters today!

In the Market

Truist Securities (formerly SunTrust Robinson Humphrey) reports, “Last week’s RevPAR was up against a -62.6% comparable result in 2020 vs. -65.0% in the prior week’s 2-year run-rate. On a 2-year run-rate, RevPAR was down 16.6% vs. down 19.7% in the prior week’s 2-year run-rate and stronger than the -27% to -33% range we saw throughout much of the springtime. Upscale RevPAR was +131.7% and -26.6% over 2 years; Upper Midscale was +107.9% and -9.3% over 2 years. We will remain attentive to markets that continue to appear as outliers. There are sharp differences between the continued strength in warm-weather destinations like Miami, Orlando, and Tampa (despite an increasingly humid late spring), the increasingly strong Oahu Island (we assume a similar rebound for the other three major Hawaiian tourist islands), and weakness in slower-to-reopen markets such as Boston, Chicago, NYC, and San Francisco. San Francisco’s 48.9% occupancy last week was the worst of the Top 25 markets and even weekend occupancy did not reach 60%.”
