AAHOA News

Central Midwest Regional Director Hitesh Patel hosted a Regional Conference & Trade Show on Tuesday in Kansas City, where we discussed relevant industry issues, an AAHOA update, and legislative priorities. The event also included an AAHOA Young Professional Focus Group, where hoteliers discussed technology, future challenges, and a host of other topics. In addition, North Central Regional Director Bhavesh Patel hosted the North Central Regional Conference & Trade Show in Detroit yesterday, where hoteliers across Michigan came together to learn, network, and make deals on the show floor. Thank you to everyone who attended these regional conferences, including all of our dedicated sponsors and exhibitors.

AAHOA has launched a new research initiative around better understanding Independent Hoteliers, and this data collection is critical to several of our initiatives. The Independent Hoteliers Property Data Survey remains open until the end of September, is strictly confidential, and asks questions around independent properties, including the number of rooms and where they’re located. Please set aside a few minutes to complete this brief survey, or ask someone in your family or organization to complete it on your behalf. The survey should take no longer than three minutes to complete, and it will help us understand how we can better negotiate on your behalf.

Last week at the 2019 Legislative Action Summit, AAHOA Chairwoman Jagruti Panwala spoke to Glenn Haussman of No Vacancy News about why now is the time to get involved with advocacy efforts and how you can actively participate. Check out the video here

In the Market

SunTrust Robinson Humphrey reports, “Luxury (+4.2%) was the strongest chain scale for branded hotels; Economy was the weakest at -3.8%. Upper Midscale (-1.1%) and Midscale (-3.6%) underperformed the industry average. There are a lot of moving parts in last week's STR results. The biggest impacts were the easy y/y comp from the holiday shift of the Jewish High Holidays and the impact from Hurricane Dorian to the Eastern Seaboard.”
