AAHOA Chairwoman Jagruti Panwala and Interim President & CEO Rachel Humphrey will represent AAHOA at the upcoming ALIS Summer Updates next week. Jagruti and Rachel will participate on the View from the Boardroom panel and give closing remarks in Los Angeles (July 9) and Chicago (July 11), respectively. Recycling old buildings into new luxury hotel properties offers more than just a financial benefit to the owner and developer. Revitalizing an old and/or abandoned building into something new not only helps preserve a city's history, it also dramatically reduces the impact these large construction projects have on the environment.

In Roanoke, VA, the hospitality industry is working closely with Virginia Tech to house students. The school saw an influx of freshman students, filling up student housing. A Holiday Inn Express and the Inn at Virginia Tech are providing about 200 rooms for students to live in during the coming school year.

Bloomington-Normal, IL, saw a slump in the hotel industry at the end of 2018 and that low rate is continuing into 2019. The local room rate has fallen as hotels are discounting rooms to get more business. There are several reasons that factor in to the issue, including a tight labor market, large employers moving out of town and possible market saturation.
