experience. The event featured general sessions, workshops, and networking
events to provide data, analysis, perspectives, and insights.

AAHOA Chairwoman Jagruti Panwala will lead the "Enhancing Hospitality Industry Education for Today & Tomorrow" session on June 10 at the International Society of Hotel Associations Summer Meeting in Richmond, VA. SunTrust Robinson Humphrey reports, “Upper Midscale (+1.3%) was the strongest chain scale for branded hotels; Luxury was the weakest at -0.3%. Midscale (+0.3%) underperformed the industry average. Headline RevPAR was helped by independent outperformance. Last week was a relatively clean comp. While Group RevPAR was challenged at -4.7%, looking at the detail by market there may have been some puts/takes on some citywides contributing to the below-normal performance as well as some day-by-day impact from the various sporting events such as the 2018 NHL playoffs and finals.” For more, read the full report.

Security and privacy are important issues in the big data discussion, but it's clear that big data isn't going anywhere in the hospitality industry. The information that is gathered allows hotels to target customers on a much more detailed level, personalize each stay for each guest, and predict future trends, among many other options.

There has been an industry-wide focus on artificial intelligence (AI), but business intelligence (BI) is another trend increasing in popularity in the industry. Combining BI with the systems you already use to run your hotel, such as revenue management, property management, and reservations systems, you then have data available to identify opportunities to increase revenue.
