AAHOA Chairman Hitesh (HP) Patel was a guest panelist at the 2019 Diversity & Inclusion Conference in Philadelphia on March 25-26. Hitesh joined other minority association directors on the Minority Hotel Association President’s Roundtable panel, where he discussed the importance of unity, especially when advocating on behalf of the industry. They also discussed how the brands can do more to promote their diverse franchisees by including them on franchise advisory committees and in decisions made by brands.

AAHOA Chairman Hitesh (HP) Patel will be on The All-Star panel during the General Session at the My Place Hotels Convention at the Hard Rock Hotel San Diego on April 24. The My Place event runs partially concurrent with the 2019 AAHOA Convention & Trade Show, and My Place has partnered with AAHOA to co-host a Young Professional Hoteliers Reception at its convention on April 25 and to welcome its owners to #AAHOACON19.

SunTrust Robinson Humphrey reports, “Economy (+1.2%) was the strongest chain scale for branded hotels; Luxury was the weakest at -3.6%. Midscale (+0.3%) and Upper Midscale (+0.7%) performed roughly in line with the industry average. Last week's results were largely reflective of a tough holiday comp: Good Friday/Passover/Easter took place starting on the weekend of March 30, 2018, thus pushing corporate demand (especially group) into the week of March 18, 2018. The tough group comp was evident with Group RevPAR of -8.0% last week, y/y. Occupancy still remains negative to slightly positive across the industry. The only relatively decent performers last week were the non-branded hotels; Independents' RevPAR was +2.5% (we believe driven by lower-rated hotels).”
