AAHOA Vice Chairwoman Jagruti Panwala will join Raakesh Patel of Super 8 and Jay Wrobel from the U.S. Department of Energy on a panel at the Department of Energy's Better Building Summit next week in Cleveland, OH. AAHOA has partnered with the U.S. Department of Energy to offer resources on energy efficiency and cost savings through sustainability. Learn more about the Better Buildings Summit here.
  
AAHOA will host two regional meetings next week: one on August 21 in Nashville, TN and on August 23 in Austin, TX. In Nashville, we'll host an education session about how the new tax law is affecting you, your business, and the economy. On Friday, August 17 at 10:30 AM, AAHOA is hosting a roundtable with Congressman Gus Bilirakis (R-FL) in New Port Richey, FL. The event will include a back of the house tour followed by an update from the Congressman on his work in Washington, DC. SunTrust Robinson Humphrey reports, “Economy (+5.6%) was the strongest chain scale for branded hotels; Upscale and Upper Midscale were the weakest at +3.5%. Midscale (+5.4%) outperformed the overall US hotel industry average.  Last week was a relatively clean comp with summer leisure travel being a larger portion of overall demand. Independent hotels (+6.2%) outperformed the national average by 110 bps. Both Transient and Group were relatively strong last week.” For more, read the full report.
