AAHOA on the Hill

On Tuesday, the Department of Labor posted the final rule on Association Health Plans that will expand access to affordable health coverage options for America's small businesses and their employees. Association Health Plans allow small business owners to join together by region or industry to bargain with health insurers as if they were a large single employer. These plans succeed by allowing small businesses to negotiate with providers from larger risk pools and larger economies of scale.

Businesses in California, Oregon, Minnesota, Illinois, Maine, Maryland, and the District of Columbia will see an increase in minimum wages beginning July 1. San Francisco and Emeryville, CA will have the highest minimum wages among the jurisdictions raising their minimum requirement on July 1, with both cities raising their wage floor to $15 per hour.
