As part of a series of 1- and 2-day workshops, AAHOA will host the Mastering Sales Essentials Workshop on June 28 in Houston, TX. Designed for hoteliers that may not have a designated sales team, the workshop will provide insights on how to foster sales-focused culture and capitalize on incoming inquiries. On Wednesday, May 30, 2018, AAHOA Southwest Regional Director Imesh Vaidya will host the Southwest - Albuquerque Regional Meeting in Albuquerque, NM. The following day, members will participate in the Southwest Region Charity Golf Tournament, benefiting the Pediatric Cancer Research Foundation and the Roadrunner Food Bank of New Mexico. As SunTrust Robinson Humphrey reports, "Last week was another decent clean comp (ex-hurricane impact). Independent hotels once again outperformed branded hotel RevPAR at 190 bps above the aggregate overall U.S. result. RevPAR gains continued to be ADR driven (ADR: +3.5%; occupancy -50 bps)." Marriott is teaming up with various technology companies to offer guests its Marriott Moments platform of bookable destination activities. Activities that have been recommended by local experts are available for booking by anybody, regardless of whether they are staying at a Marriott property. (Source: tnooz)
  
Hotel owners are thinking of creative ways to make their guests between the ages of 8 and 12 happy. Hotels are coming up with new ways such as tween-friendly poolside activities, Hula-Hoop contests, and water-balloon tosses to engage tweens and keep their families coming back. A unique initiative that allows guests to use projection mapping to add decor to walls and ceilings. This can especially be useful for those hotel rooms that are interior rooms and have no windows. "By having 3D video projected to the walls, it feels bigger. We like guests to ask for these rooms and brag about it instead of maybe be booked at last," says Christian Lunden, Nordic Choice's Hobo Hotel's director of future business. (Source: Phocus Wire)
