This week, a federal judge in Texas has put a temporary hold on the Department of Labor’s union "persuader rule." This rule held that small business owners could not consult with legal experts on the minutiae of labor law without reporting to the government. Click here to read AAHOA’s statement on the issue.
The National Association of Realtors recently sent a letter to the Department of Justice asking for guidance regarding the application of Title III of the Americans with Disabilities Act to a business’ website. The lack of federal regulation governing website accessibility has left courts split and has ignited an influx of demand letters sent to businesses with the threat of litigation.
 
  
Preparation for FNAC 2016 is well underway. During this two-day event – which will take place in Washington, D.C., on September 6–7 – AAHOA members will receive industry updates, attend networking receptions and meet with their federal elected officials to advocate on behalf of the hospitality industry. The HITEC Trade Show featured the latest and greatest in technology in the hospitality industry and was filled with new gadgets and devices to help run a more efficient business. Keyless hotel room entry — basically using your smartphone as your hotel room key — has come a long way. Since marking its debut in fall 2014 with Starwood’s SPG Keyless, the mobile technology has now been adopted by others, including Hilton and Marriott, while also being piloted by Hyatt and InterContinental Hotels Group at the moment.
