AAHOA update from the NYU conference
AAHOA officers met earlier this week with leaders from American Express and hospitality powerhouses La Quinta, Hyatt, Red Lion Hotels, Vantage Hospitality and G6 Hospitality at the annual NYU conference in New York. 
AAHOA issues statement on Indian prime minister’s address
Asian American Hotel Owners Association Chairman Bharat "Bruce" Patel and President and CEO Chip Rogers released the following joint statement regarding Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s address to a joint meeting of Congress.
 
  
Two AAHOA members receive Red Roof Inn awards
AAHOA members and Red Roof Inn franchisees Mahendra Kapadia (Houston-Westchase, TX) and Anil Patel (Clarksville, TN) were honored recently at the Red Roof Regional Conference in Las Vegas. Kapadia, an owner/manager, received the Online Travel Review Award. Patel received the Through the Roof Award. Both awards are both of Red Roof’s "Circle of Excellence" program.

Joint employer update
The NLRB is investigating whether DirecTV should be considered a joint employer with the temp agency Strategic Staffing Solutions, according to an NLRB document made public Wednesday. The board denied a bid by DirecTV to nix a subpoena that seeks "information relevant" to the inquiry.
 
Overtime hearing today
  
The House Education and the Workforce Committee will convene a hearing at 10 a.m. on the Labor Department's overtime rule, focusing on the rule's effect on non-profits, colleges and small businesses. Sen. Lamar Alexander (R-Tenn.) introduced a resolution this week to block the final rule under the Congressional Review Act, citing concerns about the rule's effect on college tuition costs. 
June small delegation meeting
Yesterday, AAHOA members from Pennsylvania convened in Washington, D.C., to meet with their elected officials and promote small business issues. Members also had the chance to see Prime Minister Modi give a historic joint-address to Congress, where he discussed the improving relations between the United States and India.
