AAHOA president and CEO to join D.C. roundtable at ALIS Law conference 2017

Over the past three decades, Burba Hotel Network (BHN) has brought together nearly 100,000 attendees at more than 130 hospitality-related conferences in 22 countries, steadily forging a massive network of 25,000 hoteliers from around the globe. Every year, BHN produces some of the hotel industry’s best-known conferences.

For AAHOA and other North American hoteliers, ALIS is a can’t-miss opportunity to network with hundreds of the best and most accomplished hotel owners, investors, and developers in the business.

Last January, ALIS drew nearly 3,000 attendees for three days of high-level discussion on hotel investment. As "the leading and largest hotel investment conference in the world," ALIS deals exclusively with the nuts and bolts of closing deals, signing on the dotted line, and evaluating risks and potential returns within the hotel industry.

But that’s just the beginning of the process. Buying, selling, or developing a hotel brings with it a host of legal matters that can persist long after the ink on the contract is dry.

BHN and the American Hotel & Lodging Association (AH&LA) launched ALIS Law to focus on post-sale legal issues and current or pending legislation which could impact owners and operators - including the joint-employer mandate, hotel-management agreements, technology, labor relations, and short-term rentals.

This year, ALIS Law will bring together industry movers and shakers from hospitality powerhouses like AH&LA, Wyndham, IHG, Choice Hotels, Best Western, Hilton, and Marriott to provide a view from the top of hospitality. Representatives from some of the country’s top development firms and management companies will participate in panels and roundtables to share their expertise on the details.

Sessions include "Cybersecurity and the Challenges That Lie Ahead," "Current Issues in Public Lodging REIT Governance" and "Technology and Disruptors." However, with a Republican trifecta in Washington and the first-ever hotelier president ready to take office, it’s likely that the issues foremost on hoteliers’ minds will be much more politically focused.

The "Update from D.C. - The Aftermath of This Historic 2016 Election and What it Means for Your Business" panel will be held on on Tuesday, Jan. 24. AAHOA President and CEO Chip Rogers, who has served as the Georgia Senate Majority Leader, will serve on the panel along with three other industry leaders. They will discuss, among other things, labor, OTAs, short-term rental services like Airbnb, and implications of the shift in political majorities within governing bodies around the country.

Rogers will be joined on the panel by Chris Nowak, Wyndham Hotel Group executive vice president and general counsel; Paul T. Snyder, IHG vice president, corporate responsibility; and Al Young, LaSalle Hotel Properties COO. AH&LA SVP, Government Affairs Vanessa Sinders will moderate.

ALIS Law will be held at the Residence Inn and Courtyard Los Angeles on January 23-24, 2017. For more information, please visit ALISconference.com/ALIS-law.
