On Tuesday, August 15, AAHOA leaders took to social media to commemorate the 76th anniversary of India Independence Day.

This day marks the end of British rule in 1947, brought about by the Indian Independence Act of July 18 that year, and the establishment of a free and independent Indian nation. It also marks the anniversary of the partition of the subcontinent into two countries, India and Pakistan, which occurred at midnight on August 14–15, 1947.

"AAHOA is a vibrant community of 20,000 hoteliers, many of whom have strong ties to their Indian heritage and travel between the U.S. and India every year, whether it's to champion #hospitality on a global stage or make meaningful contributions back in #India," AAHOA President & CEO Laura Lee Blake said in a LinkedIn post.

"On this special day of India's Independence, I am reminded of the extraordinary journey my family, friends, and countless individuals in the #hospitalityindustry have taken to be where they are today," AAHOA Chairman Bharat Patel shared in his LinkedIn post.

India's Independence Day is a significant holiday for AAHOA Members, who embody the spirit of entrepreneurship and the American Dream.

"It's an ideal fit. Women have always traditionally been the home-keeper, hotels are home away from home for many of our guests. As a woman hotelier, we level up at something that is very much already a part of who we are."

-Tulsee Nathu, in response to the question, "What does it mean to you to be a woman hotelier?"

"As a newcomer to the Asian American Hotel Owners Association (AAHOA) Upper Midwest Regional Conference & Trade Show, I felt deeply honored and exhilarated by the warm reception extended to me by its leadership Bharat Patel. AAHOA stands as the world's largest association for hotel owners, with its members boasting ownership of more than half of all hotels in the United States. Given my current pursuit in the realm of hotel ownership, I find immense value in having an association like AAHOA that provides guidance and support along this intricate journey. #AAHOA"

Truist Securities reports, “Overall U.S. RevPAR was +2.0% y/y for the week ending 8/12/2023, per STR, above the prior week's result of +1.2%, and above the trailing 10-week average of +1.4%. Versus 2019, RevPAR was +13.6%, above the prior week’s result of +9.6%, and above the trailing 10-week average of +12.1%. Last week was a clean comp. Supporting our view of domestic hotel leisure trends as overall lethargic on y/y, leisure-heavy Economy and Midscale segments continue to lag other group and business transient-supported chain scales. As anticipated, last week's results show a boost to (big market) LA and overall U.S. RevPAR from Taylor Swift's Era's Tour. Upscale RevPAR: +4.2% y/y and +7.5% vs. 2019; Upper Midscale RevPAR: +1.5% y/y and +12.3% vs. 2019.”
