In Brief

NAFTA Update: The first round of negotiations to modernize the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) wrapped up here in Washington this weekend. The U.S. submitted introductory texts on many provisions, including textiles and apparel, that were very similar to comparable chapters in the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP). Many details of specific provisions, including potential Rules of Origin modifications on apparel, footwear, and travel goods, have not yet been disclosed.

More on these submissions will be shared with appropriate AAFA committees later this week and during the coming weeks as more details are disclosed. If you are interested in joining a committee, please contact AAFA MembershipThe second round of talks will take place September 1-5 in Mexico City. AAFA members are encouraged to share any thoughts or concerns regarding the negotiations with Steve Lamar.
