Sika’s Mortars and Concrete Admixtures production in BC has begun Pointe-Claire (Québec) – Sika Canada has officially inaugurated its new mortars and concrete admixtures plant in British Columbia. Located in Surrey, near Vancouver, the new facility of approximately 30,000 ft2 (2,800 m2) is now fully operational. This new plant represents Sika’s footprint in the heart of the Pacific Northwest, a region with a population basin of 8 million people, on both sides of the border, and consequently with significant growth potential.

The plant is based upon Sika’s lean and efficient manufacturing concept which includes a modular mortar plant and liquid concrete admixture blending equipment, all under one roof. In addition to the production area, the new building also includes two laboratories for quality control purposes, an integrated warehouse and an office space for administrative and sales personnel. It is also important to note that the plant meets local environmental regulations concerning air quality, noise management and the handling of light chemical materials.

It is with great excitement that I announce, 'Jeni's Food and Hardware’ has been bought by the Carman Co-op!

As I reflect back to 1999, I was 33, had two small kids, and knew this little town needed a store. The goal was simple, be able to buy bread, milk, liquor, and a deck! We spent many nights (all-nighters) designing the building, buying stock, and learning about grocery. How big should the store be? What else would we sell? Would the community support us? THEN... We just did it. We opened with one staff and a dream.

Now 17 years later, we have employed over 70 people and we have processed over 1.4 million transactions. We have been in a constant state of change. We've changed the front checkouts 3 times, we've re-arranged the shelving more times than I can count and we are always looking to add more space for product, even when we have run out of space to use.

Donna and I did not think 20 years and 2400+ people out when we started Jeni's and for quite some time now, we have recognized our limitations and our physical limitations in the buildings.
