Cornelia Horner, PMPI President, July 1, 2007-June 30, 2008

Cornelia has been inspiring PMPI members with her creative spirit and enthusiasm for the industry since she joined the chapter in 1999. Lucky for us, Cornelia moved here from her native Alabama to seek a career on Capitol Hill and lobbying. Cornelia quickly discovered that she really enjoyed what was only an aspect of her position: meeting planning.

In 1961, Albert Ellis and Robert Harper wrote a book called A Guide to Rational Living. It is certainly one of the most powerful books I’ve read. Their main point was that our irrational beliefs can generate sustained negative emotions (anxiety, fear, rage, pessimism, hopelessness and helplessness), and we need to consciously dismantle those irrational beliefs in order to move on from those emotions.

We currently have grant opportunities available. Applications are being accepted through February 15.

Descriptions and criteria are below. For more information, please contact Holly McCauley at hmccauley@mpiweb.org.

- The Parking Spot Chapter Grant – This grant provides chapters the funds to present one of 3 pre-developed programs (the same sessions offered as part of the Ready. Set. Meet! Chapter Grants). These grants are offered to chapters in a region with an airport Parking Spot Location.

- MCI Chapter Grants – This grant provides chapters the opportunity to have MCI present a quality education session to its members. Chapters will be able to select a topic from the three topics provided by MCI.

Several types of scholarships are offered throughout the year for current and potential MPI members. Please visit the website as opportunities will be updated often at www.mpiweb.org/foundation/grantsandscholarships.
