Altoona's Act 47 consultant on November 13 presented a financial recovery plan that recommends an increase in earned income and property taxes, a freeze in worker wages, and voluntary consolidation of services with various agencies and municipalities. GE announced on November 20 a collaboration with Ford Motor Co. in which the company will purchase 2,000 new Ford C-MAX Energi plug-in hybrids for its fleet. As part of the collaboration, Ford will jointly market GE’s alternative fuel infrastructure solutions to commercial customers and provide new alternative fuel vehicles for use at GE’s Vehicle Innovation Center.

Motorists in the San Francisco area now can fill up on a new biofuel derived from algae. The algae-based fuel is known as B20, which means a mix of 80 percent conventional diesel and 20 percent biofuel. That’s generally the maximum motorists can find at a public filling station.

Employees at Chrysler Group's Belvidere Assembly Plant had a special escort on their way to the Belvidere/Boone County Food Pantry on November 19. Leading their procession of Chrysler Group vehicles laden with food for Thanksgiving Day dinners was the all-new 2013 Dodge Dart compact car. But this Belvidere-built Dart looked remarkably like a police car, complete with overhead light bar and Belvidere Police Department graphics on the sides.
