By the end of this year, Frito-Lay will have more than 275 electric trucks deployed in the U.S., making Frito-Lay the largest commercial fleet of all-electric trucks in the country. In May of this year, Frito-Lay reached a milestone of one million all-electric miles driven.

The Government Accountability Office said in a report released on August 2 that the number of vehicles increased from about 420,000 in 2005 to more than 449,000 vehicles — an increase of 29,000 vehicles.

Four finalists will be interviewed in the next few weeks to be the City of Springfield, IL’s first fleet manager. The finalists, all men, were selected from a pool of about eight applicants, said Budget Director Bill McCarty. Two of the finalists already work for the city. Of the remaining two, one lives in Springfield and the other in Texas.

Toyota will recall approximately 778,000 vehicles that are at risk for problems with their rear suspension. But the recall hasn't started yet, because the company hasn't figured out how to fix the problem. The problem could be responsible for at least one highway accident, in which a driver reported a loud noise that immediately precipitated a loss of control.

GM Ventures LLC said it is making an undisclosed investment in NanoSteel Co, a Providence, RI-based firm, joining lead shareholders EnerTech Capital and Fairhaven Capital Partners and five existing investors to complete the Series C financing round. During the first six months of 2012 clean diesel automobile sales in the United States increased 27.5 percent, according to new sales information. In the second quarter of 2012, U.S. sales of clean diesel autos increased 22.3 percent in June over June 2011, increased 14.4 percent in May, and increased 28.2 percent in April.

There seems to be an almost direct correlation between fuel prices and fuel economy, at least in terms of the mileage of the vehicle the average American motorist has been purchasing this year. And with fuel prices once again starting to rise after unexpectedly tumbling for several months that means fuel economy is heading up, as well.
